Navratri Story

As ambal killed (vadham) nine demons and Mahisasuran we celebrate nine days (nights in fact) and on 10th day vijayadasami for the victory. During the days ambal fights with the demons and during the nights the devis (sakthi) join with the respective devars (sivam) hence this festival is called Nav (9) rathri (night).
