As BALSAS BOIEIRAS fazem o transporte de gado pelo rio amazonas e outros rios no estado do Pará, no norte do Brasil. A balsa objeto deste documentário parte de Belém do Pará com mercadoria seca, sobe os rios Amazonas e Xingu até Belo Monte, na transamazônica, de onde retorna com 300 bois para abate.

O filme documenta os nove dias dessa viagem: o cotidiano de sua tripulação, a população ribeirinha e sua interação com as enormes balsas, o sofrimento dos animais, a paisagem deslumbrante e a imparável destruição da floresta amazônica.

THE CATTLE RAFTS transport cattle across the Amazon River and other rivers in the state of Pará, in the north of Brasil. The ferry that is the subject of this documentary departs from Belém do Pará with dry goods, goes up the Amazon and Xingu rivers to Belo Monte, on the trans-Amazonian route, from where it returns with 300 cattle for slaughter.

The film documents the nine days of this trip: the daily life of its crew, the riverside population and their interaction with the huge rafts, the suffering of the animals, the stunning landscape and the unstoppable destruction of the Amazon rainforest.
