Описание к видео Inside the Operating Room for Partial Knee Replacement

Ever wondered what actually happens during #partialkneereplacement surgery is actually done? #shorts
Let's walk through this precise procedure that's helping thousands of people regain their mobility and return to active lives. Partial #kneereplacement is a specialized surgery that targets only the damaged portion of your knee while preserving healthy tissue. Unlike total knee replacement, this procedure focuses on replacing just one compartment - typically the medial (inner), lateral (outer), or patellofemoral (kneecap) area.
The procedure begins with careful preparation. Your surgeon performs a sterile preparation of the skin and uses a tourniquet to minimize blood loss during the operation. A small, well-positioned incision of approximately 3 inches is made alongside the kneecap - significantly smaller than the 7-8 inch incision required for total knee replacement.
Next comes the critical inspection phase. Your surgeon carefully examines the knee joint to confirm that arthritis is indeed confined to one compartment. This step is crucial because if significant cartilage damage is found on the undersurface of the kneecap or opposite side of the knee, the surgeon may need to convert to a total knee replacement for optimal results.
The bone preparation is where precision matters most. Using specialized alignment tools and cutting guides, your surgeon removes just enough bone from the end of the femur (thigh bone) and top of the tibia (shin bone) to accommodate the new implant components. The goal is to minimize bone removal while ensuring proper fit and alignment.
Component placement requires meticulous attention to detail. Provisional implant pieces are first placed without cement to verify proper fit, alignment, and function. Your surgeon tests the knee through its full range of motion, checking for proper flexion, extension, and ligament balance. Only when everything is perfectly positioned are the components permanently secured.
The final steps involve thorough cleaning of the bone surfaces with saline solution, followed by cementing the joint replacement components into place using specialized bone cement. The surgical incision is then carefully closed with stitches and staples.
What makes this procedure special is the technical precision required. For medial compartment replacement, the tibial component must be positioned correctly to avoid overcorrection. For lateral procedures, the component is placed with slight internal rotation to compensate for natural knee mechanics. Patellofemoral replacements require careful attention to rotational alignment and avoiding joint overstuffing.
The entire procedure typically takes about 75 minutes - faster than total knee replacement. Most patients receive epidural anesthesia, which can provide up to 48 hours of post-operative pain relief and allows for faster, more comfortable progress in physical therapy.
Recovery begins immediately. With a good epidural, patients often walk with assistance and move their knee through near-full range of motion the day after surgery. The smaller incision and tissue-preserving approach mean less trauma to surrounding muscles and ligaments, contributing to the notably faster recovery compared to total knee replacement.
Understanding these steps helps patients appreciate why partial knee replacement often results in a more natural-feeling knee and quicker return to activities. When performed by experienced surgeons using proper technique, this procedure offers excellent outcomes for appropriately selected patients.
