Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell says he understands it is the intention of the government, if it wins a second term, to “push for a referendum on the republic”.

“The PM also has said numerous times now, including to Sky News UK overnight, that the priority for this government this term is a referendum on an Indigenous Voice in the Constitution,” Mr Clennell said.

“Well, my understanding is it is the intention of this government, if it wins a second term, to push for a referendum on the republic in that second term of government.

“But there is one thing that would really set that back – and that's a defeat on the Voice referendum.”
