On July 15, 2025, a small aircraft was hijacked out of Victoria, British Columbia, and flown into Vancouver International Airport’s airspace, triggering a major response and grounding all incoming flights. The hijacker—identified as a former commercial pilot—allegedly took control of a Cessna 172 after threatening a flight instructor, and proceeded to disrupt airspace operations over one of Canada’s busiest airports.
