Описание к видео 12 Tips for Successful OT Fieldwork I

In this video I give advice from personal experience on how to make through fieldwork I in OT school.

Tips include:
1. Arrive on time every day and by on time I mean early. If you’re not early you’re late. Make sure you know how to get to the facility and do a practice run if you need to.
2. Dress professionally, dress according to your school or fieldwork location rules-don’t show skin-don’t wear flashing jewelry, wear hair up depending on setting.

3. Have a goal of what you would like to learn, see, or practice. Tell your CI upfront. Try to make a daily or week long plan to ensure you learn as much as possible.

4. Email CI the week prior to find out additional details like (meeting location, lunch situation, dress code, additional items to bring or not to bring, diagnosis, inventions or principles to review)

5. Don’t get in the way!

6. Keep a journal at home to document what you observed, learned, found interesting, have questions about etc. (diagnosis, interventions, that you can review at the end of the week.

7. Provided assistance when possible-cleaning up, getting supplies

8. Ask before you interact engage or touch a patient. Or have a plan before you enter the room or home.

9. Ask for copies of references or hand outs

10. Be respectful of everyone else at the facility-be professional at all times, don’t curse, talk inappropriate about a client.

11. Ask for feedback-don’t be afraid to ask questions but make them thoughtful. Which means you must be very observant.

12. Remember expectations are much lower on FW I and CI’s should be more forgiving and should not expect you to know everything or have all the answers. Remember that your CI is taking additional time to let you observe.

13. Don’t be afraid to reach out to your fieldwork coordinator if there is an issue.
