Norman was born on Christmas Day 1925 in Hull, Yorkshire, the eldest of eight siblings. He got his break at Hull's Perth Street Club and became a full-time comic in 1962. It was while at a working men's club in Goole that he heard a bingo caller struggling to use a microphone that kept cutting out, he went on and imitated it and his signature piece was born.
He was a regular on TV variety shows during the 70s & 80s.
He died on 14th March 2013 after a long battle with Parkinson's disease.
