From My Vault Series.
This time we follow "The Trans Australia" passenger train from Adelaide to Long Plains. The train originated under the Commonwealth Railways banner and ran from Pt Pirie to Parkeston in WA. With the standardizing of the line to Adelaide and from Kalgoorlie to Perth, the train then ran from Adelaide to Perth.
It was eventually cancelled with the Indian Pacific taking over the roll, travelling from Sydney to Adelaide via Crystal Brook and then reversing to return to Crystal Brook, then to Pt Augusta and Perth.
The third passenger car on the train is a original Commonwealth Railways Wegman car built in Germany or one that was built in Japan, still in the old Comrail colours. Further back in the train is another one, but has been repainted silver to match the stainless steel of the newer cars.
The brakevan is an old Comrail HRD relay van used on goods trains across the Nullabor. It contained passenger accomadation for truck drivers who were traveling with their trucks, also being transported on the train. That's another story. Filmed in the early 1980's
