Herbivores, especially large herbivores, have been essential for biodiversity in grassland ecosystems through the eons. In areas, that natural herbivores have been hunted out or displaced by human activities, it is advantageous to introduce livestock to regenerate and rewild the environment.
In southern Africa, using Nguni cattle has the advantage as they have inherent resistance to diseases and pests in the region, and as such don't require heavy regimes of dipping and dosing for internal and external parasites.
