This video is one stage of a 13-part series walking the entire Wye Valley Walk to celebrate the path’s 50th anniversary. The route and walks were planned by Ruth Waycott of Wye National Landscape, author of the brand-new Cicerone guidebook to the Wye Valley Way. A core group of around a dozen walkers completed the entire trail, with more than 100 joining various stages. I was lucky enough to become the group’s honorary videographer—capturing each day from the path.

I set off very early from home on a bright late spring morning. I was ever so slightly nervous. I had joined a walking group without meeting or knowing any of the participants. How might i get on; would I fit in? Would I be annoying to them? Could I film? Would they bug me with encyclopaedic knowledge of rare plants and insects?
