브라이언 하일랜드(Brian Hyland)가 18세 되던 1962년에 발표한 노래 “Sealed With A Kiss”입니다. Peter Udell과 Gary Geld가 작사 작곡한 이 곡은, 원래 1960년 5월 ‘포 보이스(Four Voices)’의 싱글로 처음 발표되었는데 당시 크게 주목받지 못했어요. 그러다 2년 후 브라이언 하일랜드(Brian Hyland)에 의해 미국과 영국 차트에서 3위에 오르며 히트를 쳤죠. (우리가 원곡이라 알고 있는 것 중에는 리메이크인 경우가 꽤 많아요. 오늘의 노래처럼요.)

후에 제이슨 도노반(Jason Donovan), 다나 위너(Danna Winner) 등 많은 가수들이 리메이크했는데요. 제가 좋아하는 버전은 바비 빈튼(Bobby Vinton)이 1972년도에 발표한 커버에요. 여느 때보다 이번 작업은 리메이크 버전을 골고루 많이 들었어요. 가수마다 색깔이 다르니까 골라 듣는 재미가 상당하더라고요. 제가 부른 리메이크 버전도 여러분 마음 한편에 들었으면 좋겠네요.

커버송은 항상 시간에 쫓기듯 만들고 서둘러 공개하기 때문에 늘 미완성의 상태처럼 여겨져요. 몇 달을 정성 들인 앨범도 뒤돌아보면 아쉬운데, 단 며칠 만에 작업한 결과물이니 오죽할까요. 하지만 좀 부족하고 아쉽더라도 여러분과 자주 소통하는 것에 더 무게를 두고 있습니다. 마음만은 매일 업로드하고 싶은데, ‘다 차려놓은 밥상에 숟가락만 얹는’ 게 아니라 직접 앞치마를 두르고 요리까지 만들려는 고집 탓에 시간이 걸리네요.

자주 뵙기 위해 분주히 움직이고 있어요. 그런 제 마음을 담아 ‘키스로 봉한’ 오늘의 노래를 들려드릴게요.

Brian Hyland released the song "Sealed With A Kiss" in 1962 when he was 18 years old. Written and composed by Peter Udell and Gary Geld, the song was originally released in May 1960 as a single from "Four Voices", but was not much noticed at the time. Two years later, it was a hit by Brian Hyland and reached number three on the U.S. and U.K. charts.

Later, many singers remade the song, including Jason Donovan and Dana Winner. My favorite thing is a cover released in 1972 by Bobby Vinton. I listened to the remake version more than usual while working on this song. Each singer has different colors, so it's fun to choose and listen to them. I hope my remake version will be your favorite from now on.

Covering a song is always running out of time, so it's not perfect and sometimes unsatisfactory. But I think it's good to upload a lot of videos to you often.
