FOOD WITH JOY host, Joyce Barton, interviews Mia Pivirotto, a medical school student, a person who stutters and her daughter. Mia shares her story of what it was like growing up with a stutter and how it never stopped her from achieving her goal of becoming a doctor. Mia is in her 3rd year as a student doctor at the University of New England School of Osteopathic Medicine. She plans to be a pediatrician where she will be a champion for children as they face life's challenges. Mia not only has a stutter, she had open heart surgery at 16 months old for a condition called Tetralogy of Fallot which later required a stent in her heart at age 15 to prepare for another major surgery at the Cleveland Clinic to correct a severe case of scoliosis. Mia understands what it is like to face tremendous life challenges as a child.
