One thing that changed on the public transport network during Melbourne's months-long lockdown was that the E Class trams were introduced onto Route 30. In this video we see several E Class trams on Route 30 along La Trobe Street and Victoria Parade. We also see some historic W Class trams on Route 35 (City Circle) inbetween shots; including one with everyone's favourite YouTube tram driver at the controls ;)

Built by Bombarider Transportation since 2013, the E Class trams are the newest and largest trams in the Yarra Trams fleet. In contrast Route 30 is Melbourne's smallest tram route; only 2.9km in length operating between Docklands and St Vincents Plaza in the city along La Trobe Street.

It's seems an odd combination at first operating our largest tram on our shortest tram route. However the Victorian Government & Yarra Trams are still taking delivery of new trams, and the E's have completely filled out the routes they're currently allocated on; being the 11, 86 and 96. It will also take some time before they're ready to operate on their next route; the 58 in mid-2021. Allowing the E's to operate on Route 30 allows the newest trams to gain service kilometers, plus La Trobe street was already capable of handling the trams so minimal infrastructure changes were needed to introduce the trams on that route.
