Airport Yoga Takes Off in Hong Kong

Airport yoga is taking off. Bloomberg QuickTake's Rosalie e’Silva checks out Hong Kong International Airport’s offering - a yoga space by Cathay Pacific and Pure Yoga.

The yoga space in the business class lounge offers business travelers the chance to do some yoga or a meditation before they hop on their flight. The question is, does it take the stress out of traveling?

Junya Yamaguchi is a passenger trying out the meditation space and says, “"I feel very nervous from the iPhone because I get too many emails from the company even though I have a vacation so I want to keep my mind peaceful. If I relax too much, I’m afraid I’m missing the airplane! So therefore, I need to check the time every time."

Hong Kong is one of a growing number of airports offering a yoga and meditation space to passengers. Other airports include San Francisco, Dallas and Frankfurt.

Cathay Pacific’s Elaine Lee says, “The yoga and meditation space really helps our flyers, especially long-haul flyers as they can relax themselves before the flight. From what I’ve heard from members, because they do want to reduce stress so wellness is very important to them.”

But can just a few minutes of yoga help de-stress?

Almen Wong is a yoga teacher at Pure Yoga and says, “I feel better going on a flight, I feel better after landing if I take 5 minutes to move myself around a little bit. Five minutes wakes me up and also makes me feel so much better and alive.”

But what if you don’t have your yoga gear?

Pure Yoga’s Anjan Kundu says, “You don’t have to do anything. Just sit here. And enjoy the sound.”
