Hiking to Willow Lake - Crestone, Colorado

This moderate hike out of the small town of Crestone, CO is a beautiful entry into the Colorado high country. From the parking lot, this well-maintained trail gains nearly 3,000' vertically before reaching Willow Lake. This trail can be the intro for a backpacking trip, a bid to summit multiple nearly 14ers, or it can simply be a beautiful day hike, like we opted for. Located in the Sangre de Cristo Wilderness, the lake is surrounded by some of Colorado's more challenging 14ers, including the Crestone Needle and Crestone Peak.
