As a kid, Tracey Carswell (they/them) always felt a little different. But they didn’t have the language to explain how or why until they tried on the term “nonbinary” and started using they/them pronouns. Finally, it felt like the right fit. Then came the chest cancer diagnosis, and Carswell was immediately thrown back into a gendered space that didn’t feel right to them. Here, Carswell shares how they came to find acceptance and support in their healthcare as a nonbinary person with chest cancer.
