In 1964, at the height of the Civil Rights Movement, Sam Cooke began working on an album that was meant to go even deeper than “A Change Is Gonna Come.”
Titled Black Lives Matter, it was a collection of deeply emotional songs about unity, pain, love, and hope — a call for equality at a time when speaking those truths was dangerous.

According to studio notes and interviews from those close to him, Cooke faced strong pressure from record executives and radio networks to cancel the project. They feared his message was “too political, too raw, too real.”
The tapes were shelved, forgotten, and eventually lost to time… until now.

This album has been painstakingly reconstructed and reimagined as a tribute to what Sam Cooke stood for: freedom, love, and the unshakable belief that every soul deserves to be heard.
A message once silenced — now finally sings again.
