Sri Padaya is a Piligrimage Site visited mainly by Buddhists to view the sacred footprint of Lord Buddha.This has also attracted tens of thousands of people from various religions and backgrounds, and is viewed as a place of religious attributes as well as a tourist attraction.

There are several pathways that can be taken to climb towards the top of this sacred mountain peak. The most common pathway taken by pilgrims is the Hatton route which is also considered to be the easiest route to reach the peak in less than a couple of hours.

Apart from this Hatton Nallatahanni Trail, the other routes that can be used to climb this mountain are, Rathnapura-Sri Palabaddala Trail, Kuruwita-Erathna Adawikanda Trail, Moray Estate-Sandagalathenna Trail, Deraniyagala-Uda Maliboda Dikellakanda Trail, Mukkuwaththa-Dehenakanda Trail, Fishing Hut-Paradise Trail and the Fishing Hut-Waterfall Trail.

There are many stories with regard to how Sri Padaya has been discovered, where some stories explain how the royalty has discovered it through many obstacles, and some say how fairies has helped to discover this sacred mountain.
