With a career that spans more than six decades, South African, actor, author and director, Dr John Kani, has continued to mesmerise global theatres and film screens with his unforgettable roles.
Born in New Brighton in Gqeberha, award-winning Kani's early stage performances range from when he appeared in Athol Fugard's renowned stage play "Sizwe Banzi is Dead" and "The Island" with his friend Winston Ntshona to his role in the internationally-acclaimed stage production, "Kunene and the King".
Today, Dr Kani, on behalf of the British King Charles III and the British High Commissioner to South Africa, will be made an honorary Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire in recognition of his services to drama.
