It is a day of traditional rituals where people do not light a fire for cooking to honor Jog Maya, also known as Shitala Devi, and pray for the clearance of smallpox and skin-related issues caused by body heating.

Sindhis, who migrated to India after the partition of India in 1947, faced many challenges and had to start their lives from scratch. They were given various names like "shor machane wale" and "dikhawa karne wale," but they worked hard to rebuild their lives with honesty and dedication. THADRI is a testament to their resilience and determination.

On the day of THADRI, Sindhis prepare various delicious and mouth-watering dishes like koki, lola, Dal pato phulko, Basani Koki, Matto, Saila Baji, and many more, a day before the festival. They do not light a fire to cook and instead cool the food by sprinkling a little water, which they offer to Jog Maya.

THADRI is not just a festival; it is an expression of Sindhi culture and a tribute to the brave forefathers who left everything behind to start anew. Anyone can celebrate this festival, and it is an opportunity to learn more about Sindhi culture and its unique traditions.
