Delos Mediterranean Garden Tour at Sissinghurst Castle

The epic transformation of Delos at Sissinghurst Castle Garden was completed in March 2020. The new Delos is an informed reimagining of Vita Sackville-West and Harold Nicolson’s original vision of a Grecian isle scattered with ancient ruins and Hellenistic artefacts, carpeted by Mediterranean wildflowers, and filled with the herbal scent of the garrigue. The National Trust team worked with one of the UK’s foremost and best loved garden designers, Dan Pearson, to create the wild, sun-drenched landscape and defy the triple challenge of heavy Wealden clay, the Kent climate, and a north-facing aspect. Eighteen months on, the former woodland cottage garden overlooked by Priest’s House is a promising Mediterranean landscape, already evolving with convincing Delian character.
