The characteristic curve describes the specific properties for a particular screen film. The responsiveness to X-ray exposure at the film itself determines the characteristic curve. Different screen films have different speeds as well as latitude values. Both of which we discuss here. I practice we don't chose these properties directly as they have been predetermined by the manufacturer.
