Glessner House operated with a live-in staff of eight. The annunciator, located on the east wall of the kitchen, was an effective way for the family to remain connected to their staff. A call button could be found in each of the main rooms. If something was needed, the button was pressed, and the annunciator would ring, the arrow moving to indicate from which room the call had come. A servant would then be immediately dispatched to that location.
