Sikkim is the pure amalgam of the colourful culture, rich heritage and lip smacking food. When you enjoy varying temperature like famous Orchid festival to the freezing temperature of Tsomgo Lake unless you have tried the local cuisines at this marvellous hill-station, you will not feel satiated.




Momo. Momos are the most famous traditional food item emerged from Nepal and China. Now native to Tibet, Nepal, and the Sikkim, Assam and Darjeeling regions of India. It is steamed or fried dumpling filled with ground meat, vegetables, tofu, paneer cheese, soft chhurpi and vegetable meat combinations

Thukpa. Thukpa is a mix of Tibetan style noodle that is blended with the soup and flavored with crumpled vegetables. Traditionally served with meat and is really delicious with lean chicken.


Gundruk and Sinki
Gundruk is made with leafy greens, by fermenting for a short period then drying. It retains digestive benefits of fermentation, but instead of preserving it by salt and cold temperature, it is preserved by drying.


Sinki is a similar process done with radish roots.

Chhurpi
Churpi Durka is amde from Himalayan Yak Milk. Loaded with probiotics, antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. The two varieties of chhurpi are a soft variety and a hard variety. Known to remove plaque and make gums strong

Kinema curry
Indigenous fermented soybean food prepared mostly by the Limbus of the Eastern Himalayan region
Kinema is eaten as curry with steamed rice. The shelf-life of freshly prepared kinema 1 week in winter without refrigeration

Phagshapa
Phangshapa is a Nepali Pork dish from Sikkim stewed with radishes and dried chillies . Compared to other curries, it is not so spicy as the only spice used is Chillies

Tongba is a millet-based alcoholic beverage found in the eastern mountainous region of Nepal Darjeeling and Sikkim. Offering Tongba is respect to a guest in Limbu people and famous for occasions and festivals.
