A TREE peppered with used needles sits in a squalid drug den just yards from Scotland’s only safe consumption room.
The horror display has been branded a sickening symbol of the nation’s shameful drug death stats and failed efforts to tackle the abuse epidemic.
The tree is in secluded undergrowth surrounded by hundreds of discarded hypodermic jabs, human excrement, discarded underwear, used condoms and booze bottles.
Councillor Thomas Kerr - who was alerted to the depraved Glasgow city centre scene by a law enforcement whistleblower - said: “It is a symbol of the entire system and the whole failure of the drugs death crisis.”
