The best whisky in the word, according to whisky expert Jim Murray is American. William Larue Weller 128.2 Proof was World Whisky of the year in the 2019 edition of the Whisky Bible.

Part of the highly anticipated annual Buffalo Trace Antique Collection, this year's winner is the William Larue Weller. Each year sees the release of four expressions in the collection, including the Eagle Rare 17-year-old, Sazerac Rye 18-year-old, William Larue Weller, Thomas H. Hardy Rye, and George T. Stagg. Each release comes from a different batch, as the blend varies depending on the casks.

The winner is a wheated bourbon distilled in 2005 and released in the fall of 2017. Named after a distiller who is said to be the first to replace rye with wheat in the mash bill, this year's William Larue Weller is soft and smooth bursting with notes of caramel, marshmallows, and vanilla. Pepper and spice enter on the palate and the sweetness from the nose continues into a long finish. Sadly, this release has already sold out.
