Feb 2020, Aihole, Karnataka, India – Durga Fortress Temple, a Heritage site, was originally part of the fortification structure built by the Marathas was named as Durga, where ‘Durg’ means fortress
Situated in Aihole, school of architecture during the reign of Chalukyan dynasty, the early 8th century Dravidian and Nagara style temple was dedicated to Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu.
It is also the source of the uniquely designed and shaped Indian parliament.
The original ruins of Durga temple were re-discovered by Briggs, a British artillery officer in early 1860s.
