Indonesia-USA Deep-sea Exploration: Leg 2 Highlights

Описание к видео Indonesia-USA Deep-sea Exploration: Leg 2 Highlights

A compilation of video clips collected in deepwater by the Little Hercules remotely operated vehicle (ROV) and camera platform during the Indonesia-USA ocean exploration expedition on NOAA Ship Okeanos Explorer.

Using technology on the Okeanos Explorer allows for the discovery of interesting seafloor features with the deepwater multibeam sonar mapping system. In addition, the ship's ROV system can travel down to a depth of 4,000 meters. Images and high-definition video from the ROV and camera platform are sent from the vehicles on the seafloor to the ship and to shore in real-time using a technology referred to as "telepresence." Although the Okeanos Explorer may be thousands of miles away, scientists standing watch at shore-side exploration "command centers" throughout the country can guide the ship through its mission. Also, seafloor images and video are streamed live into classrooms, newsrooms, and living rooms via the Internet.
