On July 25, 2023, we were joined by experts to share the impact of the Supreme Court decision of race-conscious admissions and solutions for making access to college more equitable, such as holistic review in admissions, and ending discriminatory practices, including legacy and standardized testing in admissions.

This event is part of our Affirming Equity, Ensuring Inclusion, Empowering Action national initiative and brief series, with the first set of briefs focusing on equitable admissions practices. Experts shared how colleges and universities can strengthen their admissions practices by both eliminating practices that give preferential treatment to wealthier and generally whiter student applicants, like legacy and the use of standardized tests in admissions, and implementing practices that provide more equitable and fair admissions processes, like holistic review. Policymakers and college leaders must remain steadfast in their commitment to close racial and ethnic gaps in college admissions by removing inequitable practices and implementing proven and comprehensive tools that affirm equal opportunity and level the playing field for Latinx, Black, Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (NHPI), and American Indian and Alaska Native (AIAN) students.
