At first glance, Uganda looks green… but the truth is very different.

In the Rwenzori Mountains, many hillsides are already bare and dry, resembling semi-arid landscapes in Spain.

With the natural rainforest gone, Uganda faces:
Drying rivers — mountains can no longer act as water reservoirs
Soil erosion — fertile topsoil washed away, exposing bare rock
Floods — heavy rains destroy crops, homes, bridges, and lives
Loss of biodiversity — only a small percentage of original rainforest remains

Deforestation in Uganda is driven by agriculture, firewood needs, and poverty. But there is hope. 🌱

By planting fruit trees and shade trees in the Rwenzori Mountains, Urban Street Forest helps restore ecosystems, reduce erosion, improve water retention, and create food security & income for local communities.
