The work with our consultants gave me a great push and established some momentum in how we would use custom reports, how we would modify them, and even more so the value of once they're created and I could export them, some of the creative solutions for generating some metrics. So the power in being able to provide a custom report is probably more important to us than the canned reports that exist just because the data is there; we feel confident in how we're maintaining the database, and to get that data out and then be able to massage it is a big bonus for us.

So one of the things that the custom reports have allowed us to do that we weren't easily able to do before was to identify and track the requisition-specific statuses for candidates. In particular, more than ever we're seeing candidates apply for several positions at one time, so to try and keep track of where they are in the recruiting lifecycle for each of those requisitions has been a real challenge and we're serving two customers in HR—we're serving the hiring manager and the company interests in getting a position filled and we're serving the candidate's interest and their experience with us as a potential employee. So trying to keep track of who applied for what and what types of communication have they received is very important to us. Additionally is we're able to look at what stage applicants are in, or applicants as they become candidates for these reqs; it helps us to hold our partners accountable for ensuring no one's falling through the cracks, that we're following up in a timely manner, and ultimately driving towards that quick time-to-fill metric.
