London: Thameslink (and Southeastern) Trains at Elephant & Castle

Описание к видео London: Thameslink (and Southeastern) Trains at Elephant & Castle

Today’s film shows Elephant & Castle railway station in the South London Borough of Southwark. Probably more famous for being the southern end of the Bakerloo line, Elephant & Castle also has a rather busy railway station, operated by Thameslink.

The Thameslink network is (currently the only) north-south railway line crossing the City of London; all other railway lines terminate at on of the many terminal stations. The Thameslink Programme is a currently undergoing major upgrade programme to the stations, tacks and trains of the Thameslink network, and it is scheduled to be completed in 2018. This will enable 24 trains per hour during the peak under the Thameslink Core as well as connect more destinations south and north of London. Another part of the Thameslink Programme is the procurement of 115 brand-new Class 700 Siemens Desiro City EMUs, which are being currently deployed and are already in heavy service.

This film shows mostly Thameslink services at Elephant & Castle in beautiful autumn evening light. During peak hours there is an occasional Southeastern service also travelling through this station, and in fact a couple of them are shown in the film as well.

Enjoy!
