Frigiliana is a town and municipality in the province of Málaga, part of the autonomous community of Andalucía in southern Spain. The municipality is situated approximately 71 kilometers east of Málaga, the provincial capital, and approximately 6 kilometers north of Nerja. It is located in the comarca of La Axarquía, the easternmost region of the province, and integrated into the judicial district of Torrox.

The village itself is a labyrinth of charming narrow whitewashed streets with old Andalucian houses. Around the village are a series of tiled wall displays telling the story of the village during the Moorish occupation and the Reconquista (the expulsion of the moors from Spain).

Frigiliana is one of the oldest places on the Andalusian coast whose traces go back to the Phoenicians and the Romans. Over the millennia, many cultures have left their traces in Frigiliana so that the place is also known as the village of three cultures. What is meant by this is the Muslim, the Jewish and finally the Christian culture.

The place still reflects its village charm today, and thanks to its location on the southern edge of the Almijara-Tejeda Mountains, at 425m, there is a mild climate even in winter.

Frigiliana has been honoured several times as "Most Beautiful Village in Andalusia". It has also been recognised as "Spain's most beautiful and well-preserved village" on several occasions, and is known as the "white village."

For four days at the end of August each year, Frigiliana hosts the Festival of the Three Cultures (Festival de las Tres Culturas), celebrating the region's historic confluence and co-existence of Christian, Muslim and Jewish traditions. The popular part of the festival includes "la ruta de la tapa" or the tapas route.

NOTE: According to the news, Frigiliana makes headlines once again as one of National Geographic's 100 most beautiful towns. Frigiliana was handpicked for the list by editors who cite the town’s charming floral decoration, inviting streets, striking whitewashed buildings and incredible castle as reasons to visit. The town’s fascinating cultural heritage as the confluence between Moorish settlers and past Mediterranean civilisations was highlighted. The Editors were impressed not only by the architecture reflecting this rich history, but also by the delicious local cuisine reflecting the diverse origins of the town.
