Problematic Hadith Promoting Pre-Modern Medicine | Part 15 | Dr. Shabir Ally

In part 15 of our #hadith series, Dr. Safiyyah Ally asks about hadith that promote remedies for various illnesses. Do these hadiths apply in every situation, or are they specific to certain situations? How do these remedies provide a cure when we know that modern medicine is often needed for severe illnesses? Many people, especially Muslims familiar with these hadith, are attracted to #naturalmedicine, particularly remedies such as #honey, black seed, and cupping. These are promoted by Muslims for almost every illness. The hadiths lead us to question the scholarly practice of hadith reconciliation. In additon, certain hadith contradict each other about when to apply the remedies, raising questions about how differences could arise if the narrations are, in fact, sound. Dr. Shabir Ally offers a solution to this problem that he finds necessary for our time and safety.
