Today’s guest is very special to me—my PhD advisor, Professor Scott Kroeker. He is a Professor of Chemistry at the University of Manitoba, Canada.

He began his journey in nuclear magnetic resonance with high-resolution solution NMR during his Master’s studies. Later, he developed a keen interest in solid-state NMR spectroscopy. However, magnetic resonance isn’t his only research passion—he has also done extensive studies on the structure of borate and borosilicate glasses.

In this episode, I asked him a wide range of questions, such as: What is the difference between a materials scientist and a chemist when they study glass? and how has the quality of NMR data changed over the past few decades? We also discussed the most recent NMR symposium he chaired at the CSC 2024 conference in Winnipeg.

But there’s a bonus in this episode! Professor Kroeker is also the vice-chair of the board of a family business specializing in potato farming. However, this isn’t a typical farm. Hi, I'm Mojtaba Abbasi, a Ph.D. candidate in Chemistry (at the time of writing this description!). I've been working on glasses for several years.
