✍Biology forms the basis of life sciences. She deals with the complex phenomena of life and explores the fundamental interactions between molecules, cells, organisms, populations and communities. Biologists decipher the basic molecular mysteries of life, study the microscopic world, explore the interactions between different organisms, explore primeval forests, deserts and other habitats, or develop the basics for species conservation.

The most topical focus in Halle is on molecular mechanisms of biological information processing, especially in plants, protein biochemistry, phytopathology, heavy metal resistance of microorganisms, social behaviour and genetics of bees and functions of biodiversity in the subtropics. Accordingly, the consecutive Master's degree programme Biology 120 LP offers students a wide range of different biological specialist modules and research group internships. The focus is on physiology, genetics, microbiology, ecology, botany, zoology and developmental biology. The course of study is strongly research-oriented.
