Around The World And Back Again

The Metropolitan Museum of Art is hosting an exhibit of one of the earliest photo archives; among these daguerreotypes, the precursor to our modern-day cameras, are some of the first photographed images of Egypt and Greece.
The exhibit is dedicated to the French artist and photographer Girault de Prangey who spent years documenting the Eastern Mediterranean with the newly invented daguerreotype.
This is the first exhibit in American history dedicated to the artist who experimented with new and innovative techniques using his camera to capture images of historical sights of cultural significance.
Among the collection are photos of Paris’s Notre-Dame Cathedral’s renovations from the 18th century, which Prangey adamantly opposed.
Gabriella Vetrano reports on this groundbreaking exhibit and attendee’s reactions to the images on display.
