My tips
1. The best way to travel around Switzerland is by train — hiring a car really isn’t worth it.
2. You won’t get cheap train tickets on the day. They need to be booked in advance.
3. It’s worth spending three full days in the mountains to get a 3-day pass. It gives you 50% off the ticket for the final part of the cog railway going to the Top of Europe, and also increases your chances of catching good weather for the summit.
4. The 3-day pass is absolutely worth the money.
5. In the Swiss mountains, it’s not just about skiing — there are also sledges. Sledges are easy to rent at the foot of the mountain, from 15 CHF per day.
6. The clothes I have aren’t suitable for comfortable skiing in winter (they were fine in spring). Proper ski gear is essential, including ski goggles.
