START WITH THE END IN MIND - Rule #1 on 5 Rules When Communicating to Senior Stakeholders - BEST strategy and 5 Rules When Communicating to Senior Stakeholders to increase your chances of success.

If you have ever seen a senior stakeholder diary it’s.. busy busy busy. Back to back to back. You are one of many meetings in the day. The easier you make the decision or action from the meeting happen the better your chances for success and the better you look.

Don’t waffle, be brief and concise and be very focused on the intention and outcome of the meeting.

FLEX TO THEIR REQUESTS - Rule #2 on 5 Rules When Communicating to Senior Stakeholders - BEST strategy and 5 Rules When Communicating to Senior Stakeholders to increase your chances of success.

Chances are that the plan and schedule of what you go in there with is not what actually happens. The senior stakeholder will have their own interpretation and requirements for the meeting and you need to flex with what they need to make the decision or give you the feedback you want from them. Be willing to totally jump around. Handle questions as they come up. Change order, direction or content according to their questions. Be flexible.

RESPECT THE EGOS IN THE ROOM - Rule #3 on 5 Rules When Communicating to Senior Stakeholders - BEST strategy and 5 Rules When Communicating to Senior Stakeholders to increase your chances of success.

Egos varies obviously between the people you are dealing with but generally the further up the tree you are, perhaps the bigger the ego..

They haven’t got to where they are by luck, they have persuaded, influenced and build success over there career and have A LOT of experience.
It’s a combination of confidence, success, competition and I think the point of including this in the training is really not from a position of saying what is right or wrong but that you need to understand and recognise that is what you are more likely to come across the higher up you go – in some way.

Reputation, Ego & Saving Face Is Very Important to bear in mind make sure you don’t put anyone in a position where they will not sign off on something because it is directly going against what they are publicly saying… because the answer will be no.Reputation is crucial the further you go up the ladder.

WALK AND TALK CONFIDENCE - Rule #4 on 5 Rules When Communicating to Senior Stakeholders - BEST strategy and 5 Rules When Communicating to Senior Stakeholders to increase your chances of success.

No confidence = no credibility.
Know that you have all the information you need for the next steps.
Dead in the water unless your confident.
Loose instant credibility.
Project confidence - in our posture, in your voice, in your breathing, set your intentions, consciously, subconsciously. Whatever happens, whatever they ask… keep eye contact; breath; shoulders back; confident posture, be respectful, know your stuff, hold you confidence state.

Opportunity to demonstrate your value.

FOCUS ON VALUE - Rule #5 on 5 Rules When Communicating to Senior Stakeholders - BEST strategy and 5 Rules When Communicating to Senior Stakeholders to increase your chances of success.

Instead of walking in that room and being focused on you, and whether you are going to be able to answer their questions, get through your presentation, and get the answers you want, one great way to switch your mindset round and get rid of the imposter syndrome is to focus on value you give instead of focusing on yourself. Go in the room with the intent to demonstrate the value you bring to the table because that is what they are interested in and have hired you go do a certain job, so go in focused on the value.
