From the Kickstarter:
Lead a band of mutant Stalkers into the Zone and fight others to scavenge artifacts from the Ancients. Stake out your claim in the post-apocalyptic wasteland – or die trying.
Designed by Andy Chambers (Necromunda, Battlefleet Gothic, Warhammer Fantasy Battle, Dropzone Commander) with Tomas Härenstam (Mutant: Year Zero, ALIEN RPG, Twilight: 2000, Blade Runner RPG, Dragonbane) and the Free League, Zone Wars is a fast and furious game of tabletop skirmishes set in the Mutant: Year Zero universe.
Multiplayer Skirmish Mayhem
Designed to be played by up to four players, Zone Wars is all about embracing mayhem and emergent narrative to create a fun and fast-flowing experience.
Everything you need for two players is included in the Zone Wars Core Set, including top quality 32mm miniature figures, rules, scenarios, terrain, dice, cards and tokens. No assembly needed, start playing within minutes!
The Robots & Psionics expansion adds more miniatures, scenarios, and terrain to allow up to four players from warring factions in the Zone.
Zone Wars is compatible with the award-winning Mutant: Year Zero tabletop RPG - bring your favorite roleplaying character onto the battlefield, or continue the Zone Wars scenarios in the RPG!
The Mutant: Year Zero Saga Continues
Zone Wars is all about fast and furious skirmish mayhem in the Zone, but the scenarios included in the Core Set and the Robots & Psionics expansion also continue the epic post-apocalyptic saga that started in the Mutant: Year Zero RPG and continued in Mutant: Genlab Alpha, Mutant: Mechatron, and Mutant: Elysium.
Follow the mutants, animals and robots of the Zone as they struggle to turn the Rot-infested wasteland into a new dawnland, threatened by a new shadowy enemy that could be the end of them all...
The Core Set
The Zone Wars Core Set includes everything needed for two players. The box comes with two Zone factions: the Ark Mutants and the Genlab Tribe, represented by three beautiful sundropped 32mm miniatures each - more if stretch goals are unlocked.
Also included are cards for characters, artifacts, Zone events and mutations, a full set of Year Zero dice, tokens, rulers and a set of cardboard terrain and a game mat. No assembly needed!
Ark Mutants: A closely knit group of human mutants, searching for their origin in the mythical Eden somewhere in the Zone.
Genlab Tribe: A tribe of intelligent animal mutants, recently having won their freedom from the horrors of Genlab Alpha.
Robots & Psionics Expansion
But that’s not all. In the Robots & Psionics expansion set two new fractions are introduced: the robotic Mechatron Hive and the Nova Cult psionics. With these you can now play three- or four-player games, turning the fun and mayhem up to a new level!
The Robots & Psionics expansion also includes new terrain pieces, additional Zone and artifact cards, and a further six (or more!) beautifully sundropped miniatures, ready to be used right away.
Mechatron Hive: A collective of robots having recently awoken to become self-aware, seeking their place in the post-apocalyptic world.
Nova Cult: A secretive cult of human mutants with powerful psionic mutations and unknown ambitions.
The Miniatures
Beautifully sculpted by veteran sculptors Alejandro Muñoz Martín and Daniel BlueIce, the minatures for Zone Wars are made in 32 mm format and require no assembly at all. As a standard, they are sundropped at the factory meaning that they will be table ready right out of the box. Check out the images below for examples.
Try It Now
Zone Wars will be awesome, but you don't have to take our word for it - you can try it yourself right away! A Print-and-Play kit can be downloaded here. You will have to source miniatures, terrain and tokens yourself, but it is fully playable.
The Rules
The Zone Wars rules are easy to grasp and makes for a fast playing experience. Just like in the Mutant: Year Zero RPG, the core mechanic is based on pools of six-sided dice, and you need at least a six to hit your target. You can push yourself for a re-roll, increasing your chances but risking damage to your weapon in the process.
The initiative systems keeps all players constantly on their toes, and powerful mutations and robot modules can turn the balance quickly even for a losing faction. Zone cards are drawn to represent the many dangers of the Zone, which can mean the ruin of even the most hardened Stalker!
