Microsoft Excel Tutorial: Have Your Excel Charts Expand As You Enter New Data
Welcome back to the MrExcel netcast! In today's video, we're going to continue our discussion on dynamic charting. In our previous video, we talked about using a dynamic named range to automatically expand our chart as we add new data. But did you know that there's another method available in Excel 2003 and 2007? That's right, we can use the List function in 2003 or the Table function in 2007 to achieve the same result.

Let's take a look at how this works. First, we'll start with a large amount of data that we want to analyze. To do this, we'll fire up a pivot table. But what if we want to see this data in a chart that automatically updates as we add new data? Well, we can do that by setting up a table using either the List or Table function. In Excel 2003, we use Control+L and in 2007, we use Control+T. This will create a table with headers, making it easier to work with our data.

Now, here's the amazing part - as we add new data to the right side of the table, our chart will automatically update! This is because the chart is based on the table, so any changes we make to the table will be reflected in the chart. This eliminates the need for using dynamic named ranges and makes the process much simpler. So, if you're using Excel 2003 or 2007, this is definitely a method worth trying out.

I want to give a special thanks to Alex for sending in the question that inspired this video. And as always, thank you for stopping by the MrExcel netcast.
