A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of attending the Wine Spectator New York Wine Experience in New York City with my great friend and former student, Kevin Stryker. What an incredible immersion into global culture!

Standing in that room, sampling wines from every corner of the globe, reminded me that learning about wine is a useful way to learn about world history and different cultures. Every bottle represents a journey, a specific terroir, and centuries of tradition. It is a shared language that instantly connects you to amazing places and complex cultures without ever having to step on a plane.

It was especially rewarding to share this moment with Kevin. Mentorship is a two way street, and it is a privilege to see former students become friends and partners in exploring life’s great passions.
