Meeting the Sentinels of Senegal, the Sentinels of the River, who fight every day to preserve their country in the face of contemporary environmental issues related to water, which are inexorably threatening their heritage. Our journey begins in Saint-Louis, radiant with its past glory and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, where we find Meissa Fall in his workshop overflowing with spare parts. A bicycle repairman passed down from father to son, Meissa Fall follows the tradition and teaches his son, Petit-Jean, to repair with love. A poet and sculptor, he transforms chains, cables, pads, nuts, screws, and bolts into sculptures, which he scatters throughout the city. Guet N’dar, a neighborhood in Saint-Louis, is dangerously threatened by climate change, leading to the inexorable rise in sea level. We meet fisherman Pape Lamine, who supervises the painting of his fishing boat by the painter Diop. Pape Lamine tells us about the traumatic episode of the tsunami that submerged part of Guet N'Dar. We head to Kayar, where we meet Elimane, a fisherman’s son, who, after a night at sea, helps unload the fish. Elimane no longer knows what to do. And why not challenge the ocean, escape behind the horizon? Today, Elimane takes his friend Ngalgou, who lost a leg in a fishing accident, to meet an extraordinary woman, Yayi Bayam Diouf, who fights against illegal immigration, which took her only child. We head to the Sine Saloum region, where we meet Mariama, who collects oysters and prepares them according to tradition. This evening, she hurries home to her village to welcome her nephew Aliou, a professional Senegalese wrestler. We follow the young man during his training with his coach, and in the evening, to his match. In the northern Saloum, at Senegal's largest salt mine, Lake Retba, we meet Ousmane, a salt scraper. He shares with us his difficult daily life and gives us a beautiful lesson in resilience and courage. A precious heritage, but under threat, the Sentinels of Senegal fight to survive in a world in turmoil."
