Te Araroa Trail Ultralight Thru Hike Gear List (4kg)

A quick look at the gear I used while hiking 1000 miles across New Zealand. This is far from a full comfort setup, but with New Zealand's incredible hut system and relatively consistent weather, I felt comfortable pushing the limits with my gear choices.

As ever, no amount of gear will make up for a lack of backcountry skills or experience. So before you empty your pockets for the latest outdoor tech, get outside with the gear you've got or can borrow and learn what works for you.

There is no right or wrong way to pack for a thru-hike. Every year, people complete Te Araroa with packs four times as heavy as my own. Take what makes you comfortable, take what makes you happy.

Some omissions from the video are my pocketed items, which were my phone, AirPods, wallet, and lip suncream.
