The Acadian Trail | Cape Breton Highlands National Park | Nova Scotia | Canada

Our goal exploring Cape Breton Highlands National Park was to hike each and every trail. It was quite the goal, and we needed a lot of time to do it. With that in mind, I took a Random Guy, we'll call him Paul, and began hitting the trails.

The Acadian Trail doesn't speak to the Acadian people that dot the landscape (especially in this region of Cape Breton Island), but yet to the Acadian Forest. The Acadian Forest region occurs most often in isolated pockets in the lowland coastal fringes and deep sheltered valleys.

The Highlands National Park only protects about 10% of the Acadian forests across Nova Scotia. The Acadian Trail is not for the beginner - mostly due to the length. At 8.4 kms, the trail sees you climbing from the base of the mountain (at Cheticamp Campground) to the top of the hill overhead. Don't let the distance scare you off though. There are a ton of great things to see on the way up, and the views from the top are quite brilliant.
