Lot 1405.1 - This one-off Nardo Gray 1989 Ferrari F40 brings with it genuine racing history with its nearly 1,000hp drivetrain. Crossing the block at the 2023 Scottsdale Auction with No Reserve, January 21-29 at WestWorld.

This 1989 Ferrari F40 is a one-off example finished in Nardo Gray. Its final available horsepower output is between 700hp and near 1,000hp based on the setup. This was an early-production F40 delivered new to the official Ferrari dealer Kroymans Automotive B.V. in Holland. It has period racing history with David Hart and Michel Oprey in the Ferrari/Porsche Challenge series. It retains its matching-numbers engine and gearbox. This Ferrari received a cosmetic restoration to its current livery by the Zanasi Group in Maranello, Italy, the official Ferrari factory paint shop for the supercars, tailor-made and Icona editions. Originally constructed as an early non-cat, non-adjust F40, this Ferrari, Chassis No. 80782, was delivered new to Kroymans following completion at the factory in November 1989. The car remained in the Netherlands, and 3 years after departing the factory, it was rebuilt for racing by Peter van Erp of Cavallino Tuning, the racing arm of Kroymans, including a repaint in yellow. Upon completion, the F40 was sold to Dutch Racing Promotions of Blaricum, Netherlands, for use by H. W. te Pas. Over the course of the 1993 and 1994 seasons, it was raced by te Pas alongside Duncan Huisman and David Hart. In the mid-1990s, the car underwent engine upgrade work, which increased the output to over 700bhp. Documentation accompanying the car indicates that this work was done in collaboration with the racing shop Michelotto. The car later participated in the Ferrari/Porsche Challenge and was driven by David Hart and Mike Hezemans, and raced again in the same series in 1998, again with H. W. te Pas, David Hart and Bert Ploeg. In 1997, the car was sold to Ferrari collector Michel Oprey. Oprey commissioned further mechanical work on the car, which was done throughout the winter of 1997-98. With a previous owner, the car was serviced by Elias Elia of Autofficina in Epsom, Surrey, in the U.K. in 2019. This service included testing the suspension, fitting new fuel tanks and fitting a new fire extinguisher. Upon its acquisition by the current owner, the F40 was shipped to the Zanasi Group of Maranello, Italy.
