Описание к видео JISR [جسر | Brücke] feat. LABIK KAMAL GAUROB & BABY DEWAN : DHAKA SESSIONS | Season 05 | Episode 06

DHAKA SESSIONS is delighted to present the Munich ensemble JISR in collaboration with the Goethe-Institut Bangladesh.
Ever since the publication of the German novelist Hermann Hesse's 'Siddhartha' in 1922, German cultural interest in South Asia became even more resilient within cultural figures and intellectuals in Germany. The book also shaped the South Asian enthusiasm and intrigue within German youth in the 1960s and 1970s. Commemorating the 100th anniversary of Siddhartha, the Goethe-Instituts in South Asia initiated an exploration of the ways South Asia and Germany are received by one another, and how each is projected in the other region in literature, music, film and everyday culture. JISR (JISR / جسر Arabic for “bridge” or “Brücke” in German) visited Bangladesh as a part of "The Sound of Faraway Lands" project of the Goethe-Institut.
Prior to performing at the National Theatre Hall of the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (National Academy of Fine and Performing Arts), JISR together with Labik Kamal Gaurob and Baby Dewan put together a collaboration, each performing songs belonging to their own traditions.
Rooted in several musical genres, JISR is an unconventional musical project that has Arabian, Afro, jazz, rock and classical music influences. Founded by the charismatic linguist, singer, Daf and Gembri player Dr. Mohcine Ramdan, JISR is an ensemble of some of Bavaria's best musicians who share his vision of a pan-oriental sound that is deeply rooted in his Moroccan musical traditions.
For this special recording of DHAKA SESSIONS, Mohcine is joined by Gergely Lukacs on Trumpet, Roman Bunka on Guitar, and fellow Moroccan Marwan Fakir on Qraqeb and Violin. It is worth mentioning that Roman Bunka is a part of #Embryo - the pioneering German rock-jazz and world-music group, where he broke new grounds with his Eastern-influenced guitar playing and compositions.
The four musicians from JISR were put together with Labik Kamal Gaurob - a veteran of DHAKA SESSIONS, and Baby Dewan. The episode features a fusion of sounds created by musical instruments perhaps never played together before. The collaborative result is truly a memorable experience that builds bridges between the cultures.
