Summer camp has been a rite of passage for millions of Canadians. It is a formative experience on the path from childhood to maturity. Rika Ruebsaat has interviewed scores of campers who attended summer camp beginning in the 1940s up to the 21st century. The result is her book, My Paddle’s Keen and Bright, a collection of stories containing campers’ lived experiences. In this session she will share some of these stories as well as inviting everyone to sing along with her the camp songs that many of us will remember.

Rika Ruebsaat and Jon Bartlett are singers, authors and historians who have been singing together for over forty-five years. Their special interest is the songs of British Columbia – songs made and sung by our forebears; songs that reflect life and work in this province over the past 150 years. Jon and Rika are the founders and organizers of the annual Princeton Traditional Music Festival.

The Brown Bag Lecture Series is an opportunity to spice up your lunch hour with interesting presentations and discussions on a variety of heritage and culture topics.
