Helping 480 institutions across 114 countries, the Met Office is contributing greatly to the movement for sustainability. On the 22nd of April, Primary Engineer’s STATWARS Climate Change Challenge and the Met Office are celebrating Earth Day 2021 with a unique panel interview! Inspiring and educating, Professors Lea Berrang Ford and Richard Betts are using their career experience to open eyes for the betterment of our planet.

Professor Lea Berrang Ford is an Epidemiologist (someone who studies diseases), a geographer and an environmental scientist at the University of Leeds. She is an expert in climate change impacts, vulnerability, and adaptation related to public and global health, and is particularly interested in how diseases carried by insects, and those that spread between animals and humans, are affected by our changing climate.

Professor Richard Betts is a Climate Scientist at the Met Office and the University of Exeter. He studies how the ecosystems of the world can help to slow the build-up of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere caused by people burning coal, oil and gas, and develops better ways of predicting whether climate change will mean that ecosystems stop doing this, causing climate change to accelerate.
