The St. Andrew Christmas Novena ... repeat 15 times daily:
Hail and blessed be the hour and moment
in which the Son of God was born
of the most pure Virgin Mary,
at midnight, in Bethlehem, in piercing cold.
In that hour vouchsafe, I beseech Thee,
O my God, to hear my prayer and grant my desires
through the merits of Our Savior Jesus Christ,
and of His blessed Mother.
Amen.
The St. Andrew Christmas Novena neither mentions St. Andrew, nor does it last nine days as does a typical novena. It spans, more or less, the length of Advent. Still, the beginning of this Novena on St. Andrew's feast day is most appropriate. St. Andrew is the Apostle of the Cross, and the Cross is the very reason that Our Lord, Jesus Christ came to earth, thereby to win our salvation. The shadow of the Cross was over Christ from the moment of His birth. Therefore, as we wait in joyful anticipation for the Coming of the Lord, we do well to meditate on that cold dark Christmas night, when the Infant King brightened the skies with His Divine Light.
